Sam enjoyed a weekend to remember at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 3/4/5), when he took part in the celebrations for Sir Frank Williams’ 40 years in motor racing. On Saturday Sam drove the FW18, the 1996 championship-winning car which he handed over to its original driver, Damon Hill, on Sunday.
Later that day, a tribute to Sir Frank took place in the circuit’s collection area, which was crowded with famous faces past and present, and surrounded by enthusiastic well-wishers. Murray Walker gave a brief, entertaining speech, which was followed by a rousing three cheers for Sir Frank.
Looking on were Patrick Head, David Coulthard, Damon Hill, Jenson Button and Alan Jones, along with current F1 driver Kazuki Nakajima, test driver Nico Hulkenberg and Sam, who carries out various testing duties for the team.
“It was a real honour and privilege to be included in the celebrations and to drive Damon’s car on Saturday” said Sam “and on Sunday afternoon, I enjoyed driving up the famous Goodwood hill in the 2007 F1 car”
