Hi, I¡¯m Sam Bird

Welcome to my weblog. I thought I’d tell you a bit about myself. I’m 20, I live in Claygate, Surrey with my parents and younger brother Max. I also have a sister Zoey who is 30 and is a journalist and broadcaster.

According to my mother, I have always wanted to race since I was very young and I always played with toys with wheels! I wanted to go karting as soon as possible, but was quite short and couldn’t reach the pedals at first. When I was ten and tall enough to fit into a kart, I started racing and progressed through the karting categories both in the UK and Europe, went on to win a scholarship to compete in the first ever Formula BMW UK championship (2nd, rookie cup), then the full championship (2nd) and Formula Renault (4th).

And now here I am in British Formula 3, thanks to my management team and of course BP Ultimate. British Formula 3 is the most competitive national series and I’m just loving it. Have a look at my car and the technical details and you’ll see what I mean, the driving experience is awesome and learning how to get the best out of it is thrilling, you learn something new on every outing. Working with my Carlin Motorsport engineers is a great experience, they really know their stuff and are teaching me a lot about aero, set-up, use of tyres, etc.

When I’m not racing, I’m in the gym or working as a driver coach for Carlin’s young BMW/Renault drivers, or enjoying a game of golf. I also enjoy listening to music and seeing my friends.

I’m going to try and do a weekly blog to keep you in touch with what I am doing and hope to get some feedback from you to know what you like to read about.

Bye for now
