"Well, just a week to go.."
Well, just a week to go till my next race in Mugello, looking forward to it. I haven’t been there before, but from experience, I know I can learn a track quite quickly and be competitive.
The team and I are all in a good place. We work well together and I have every confidence in my car. Despite my qualifying woes in Hockenheim, I was able to make up ground with my starts and plenty of overtaking, so I know it is possible to move forward in the championship with better qualifying.
My aim, as always, is to win races, but consistent points scoring finishes and podiums are imperative.
Of course, the weather will play its part, as at Hockenheim, but I really don’t mind either way. Obviously, if it’s really wet, like at Spa last year, the race becomes processional because overtaking when you are blinded by the spray is almost impossible.
This week I took Mark Reader from BP round the Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone in his road car, don’t think I scared him too much, but he said he really enjoyed it. He drove too and he’s pretty handy! Then in the afternoon I took Harvey Wiseman, a friend of my managers at CJ Motorsport round the circuit in his Ferrari F430, that was awesome – I want one!! We’re also in the middle of an ongoing piece for Top Gear Magazine so the journalists were also at Silverstone – it was a great day, but very busy.
Yesterday my new car was delivered, a white BMW 1 series, I’m really pleased with it.
I’m working hard on my fitness regime all the time, and before travelling to Italy, I have another opportunity, as part of the MSA Race Elite programme, to visit the Sports Training Village at Bath University. Their state of the art facilities are in demand by elite athletes from many disciplines. It’s great to have Team Bath personnel helping us achieve our fitness goals, which get more demanding every year.
