As the race weekend at Brands Hatch loomed, I was really excited. This is a track I know very well, and I’ve won here before. It’s one of my favourite venues and I knew that there would be a lot of British people there backing me in my attempt to win my home race. Unfortunately, the racing was not the highlight of my weekend. Although I was very quick in qualifying, fourth place, one hundedth off the front row, I was taken out at the first corner of race 1, which meant that I had to start the second race from last place, and on the Indy track at Brands, there’s not much you can do from last place, as overtaking is virtually impossible. I still gave it my all and managed to work my way up to a 19th place finish. But that was no consolation, as podiums and wins had been my (more than realistic given my pace) goal!

However, lots of other interesting stuff went on at the weekend. I gave a tour of the Manor Motorsport garage to an enthusiastic group of guests from BP. I really hope they enjoyed it. I also spent quite a bit of time up at the BP tent and hospitality areas. The BP tent was crazy, so many people came along to see me and to get me to sign hats, etc. I’ve never been that busy before. It was really really nice especially after the rubbish time I had on track!

I also spent some time with the guests in the hospitality area, talking them through the DTM race. It was good to get to know them all, they were very nice people and I hope they had a good day.

Another of my sponsors, Marc (The Edge) was there, with a group of guests, who included Leo and Sway, two awesome musicians from the UK hiphop scene. It was great to see them there supporting me.

Saw a lot of familiar faces, from fans, to old work colleagues and old friends ( I say old, I’m only 21!) it’s a shame I couldn’t get any results this weekend, but it wasn’t to be. That’s racing sometimes. At least I know the car was good and I had excellent pace. That gives me confidence going forward. Barcelona will be a better round for me! Take care, speak to you soon. Sam
