Hi guys, just got back from Barcelona and for the first time in a while, I was smiling coming back from a race track. I flew back to Gatwick with a piece of hand luggage I didn’t have on the way out: a nice big trophy!
Qualifying was ok, should have been better, but I landed up sixth, I was a bit unlucky coming across traffic at the most important times but I also might have managed that better myself. In the race I was still able to come second and get very close to the Championship leader, Nico Hulkenberg. Unfortunately, Nico drove into the back of me in the Sunday race, but I’m pleased that I can come away from this race knowing that not only do I have the speed, but so does the car. That’s really good news for the rest of the season!
Over the next week, I’ll be training as per normal, but I will also be testing GP2 for DAMS, a team that ran Kazuki Nakajima before his ascent to Formula One with Williams. I’m really looking forward to this experience and I think it will stand me in good stead for the future.
It’s been a really testing year so far for everybody involved, so I’d like to take a moment to thank the people who are on this journey with me – James and Serge from CJ Motorsport, my managers have been awesome as usual, my family who are always there for me and of course, my sponsors, in particular BP Ultimate, who have been with me for two years now, The Edge, the MSA Race Elite Scheme, the BRDC Superstar s cheme, Oblique, Green Orange, Freem who make my super suits, AON, Arai, and last but not least, Manor Motorsport who have never given up during the year and are now producing a car that is super quick and I am determined to win a race for all of you very soon.
